An underground gaming community for queer gamers in Indonesia is helping them find a safe space.
Many in the LGBTQ community in Indonesia don’t feel safe about their own identity especially when lawmakers proposed a Family Resilience bill in 2020 that will force people from the LGBTQ community to undergo rehabilitation to “cure” them of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Now, an underground community is forming in the virtual video gaming world, defying Indonesia’s repressive laws, seeking a safe space to explore and express their identity and voice.
