The Dark Side of Being a Female Delivery Person | Informer

A female delivery driver shares her experiences of demoralizing working conditions, sexual harassment, and neglect from her company – all to get customers their food.

Having worked for over two years for a major online food ordering and delivery platform, she explains how she has experienced issues common to everyone in the industry – like low and delayed pay – but also that being a woman brings extra struggles.

She has been assaulted by a customer and often feels unsafe, but may lose money if she turns down a job in an area she doesn’t want to go to. She reveals that since the pandemic, hygiene issues have run rampant, with female drivers being forced to pee and handle their periods on the side of the road.

Informer is a series where we hear the anonymised confessions and insights of people in positions of power on the inside of important institutions.
