The Bomb Blasts That Shook Bali | I Was There

On October 1st 2005, Bali, Indonesia was rocked by series of bomb blasts at two of its most popular tourist destination, Kuta and Jimbaran. The bombings killed 22 people and injured hundreds more. The attack was carried out by extremist religious group Jemaah Islamiyah. Between 2002 to 2005, the terrorist group conducted a series of attacks across Java and Bali, with the first attack in Bali on October 12th 2002 being the worst terrorist attack in Indonesia’s history, killing 202 people. The 2005 bombings in Bali were the last of Jemaah Islamiyah’s terrorist attacks in Indonesia. Ni Made Kembang Arsini recalls her experience of being at the centre of the bomb blast.
