In 2011, 13-year-old Rebecca Black became a viral sensation after her song “Friday” became a hit on YouTube almost overnight. Her unprepared moment of fame made Black a household name, for better or for worse.
Now, nine years later, Black has come into her own as a serious singer-songwriter. Rather than become another meme-like figure that would have faded into Internet obscurity, she cultivated her own online community of fans through her various social media platforms. Black also continued to make music that is deeply personal and reflective of her own journey.
