Located in the Kinusaki Peninsula of Oita Prefecture, one of Japan’s most beautiful areas, Monjusenji Temple is believed to have been founded in 648 by the Father of Shugendo, En no Gyoja, acclaiming Monju Bodhisattva as the temple’s main idol of worship from Godaisan, China. It prospered in the Edo period as a place of worship for Kitsuki’s feudal clan lord Matsudaira Nomi.
Monjusen-Ji, used to be famous in the past for its “Wisdom water” which once drunk in the form of an incantation before their first year would be “washed” of any impurities associated with colics often deadly at that time.

Situé sur la péninsule de Kinusaki dans la préfecture d’Oita, une des plus belles régions du Japon, le temple Monjusenji daterait de 648, et aurait été fondé par le père du Shugendo, En no Gyoja, et vénère le Bodhisattva Monju, influence spirituelle majeure de Godaisan en Chine. Il a prospéré durant l’ère Edo comme un lieu sacré pour le seigneur du clan féodal Kitsuki, Matsudaira Nomi.
Monjusen-ji était célèbre par le passé pour son eau miraculeuse qui offrait à son jeune buveur, si elle était bue sous forme d’incantation avant son premier anniversaire, une purification de son organisme lui épargnant ainsi les risques de coliques qui étaient très mortelles à cette époque.
