Kamo river has its source in the area of Mt. Sajikigatake. Its riverbanks are popular walking spots for both local residents and tourists alike. Beautiful and peaceful all year long, it is however during summer that the Kamo river in central Kyoto takes a livelier turn with many people having picnics on its banks. Restaurants open temporary balconies for a unique view of the river. Despite being in the middle of Kyoto, the Kamo river is, as you will see, full of wildlife with fish, ducks, cormorant, grey heron. Also, the famous Japanese Tobi or black kites that seem to particularly enjoy stealing people’s food!
Note: This video was shot in Anamorphic mode or “Cinematic” mode, explaining the unusual video aspect ratio. Also, while this video does not cover all aspects of the life around the Kamo river it will give you a good idea of what to expect around its riverbanks during the quite hot Kyoto summertime.
