Welcome to Extinction Update, the series that gives you an ecological face slap.
Lazy humans bought 80 million cars powered by fossil fuels last year; an army of idiots celebrating the death machine. Luckily, however, there’s a company in the Netherlands that is giving us a glimpse of a sensible future.
Lightyear is a startup that is focusing on developing the first solar-powered car. Before the pandemic, they gave us a test drive of their first prototype, Lightyear One, which is worth well over a million euros.
Not only could this technology be used in cars, but it could be harnessed for other forms of transportation – like boats, trains, and planes. But is Lightyear One a truly carbon-free solution to our problems and could this be the car that saves the world?
