President Xi Jinping has highlighted the wine industry as a way to boost the economy in the underdeveloped region of Ningxia. However, in China, there is often a trade-off between poverty alleviation, big business and the environment.

This Scientist Grows Rare Edible Mushrooms
William Padilla-Brown is a citizen scientist who, at a relatively young age, taught himself the ways of mushroom cultivation in order to change the world. William made waves as the first American to grow cordyceps, a rare orange mushroom that grows from the larvae of insects. William heads a citizen-run research center dedicated to environmental regeneration efforts with the belief that connecting more to the environment will aid humans in its preservation. He advocates growing your own mushrooms as a means for both food and education.

Most Savage Technique in Sumo – Tsuridashi 吊り出し – Tochinoshin Tsuyoshi
Tochinoshin Tsuyoshi is a professional sumo wrestler from Georgia and made his professional debut in March 2006. He is known for his grappling skills, muscular physique and most of all his incredible strength. His most common winning technique or kimarite is “yori kiri” or force out. However, Tochinoshin’s most memorable and entertaining fights are when he grips his opponent’s mawashi and heaves him into the air, lifting him over and out of the ring. This winning technique or kimarite is called Tsuridashi 吊り出し. The feeling of helplessness when in the air and trying to wiggle out of the situation is something that is embarrassing and amazing at the same time, hence, this Kimarite or winning Technique is the most savage and disrespectful in the world of Sumo.

The Cantonese Char Siu McRib is Here
Calvin Eng of Bonnie’s in Brooklyn is in the Munchies Test Kitchen making his inventive twist on an elusive fast food classic: a Cantonese-inspired char siu McRib. Based on the McDonald’s sandwich, this version features a classic Cantonese char siu preparation that consists of barbecuing pork and flavoring it with a red-colored sauce. Calvin’s sandwich is made with pork ribs and is marinated with his mixture of flavorings like hoisin sauce, ginger, fermented red tofu, malt sugar, and more. It all comes together with some onions, pickles, and a generous amount of spicy Chinese mustard.

The Gangs That Steal Your Puppies | Crimewave
Since the lockdown puppy phenomenon pushed up the price of dogs by up to 450% in the UK, a huge increase in dog thefts and importations has followed.
With access to the minds behind the crimes and the people on the frontline trying to prevent them, we discover why illegal puppy farms have become one of the fastest growing illicit markets in Europe.
We gained access to a gang who explained how they grab dogs in parks and from people’s houses. Plus, we secured an interview with an illicit dog importation organisation who bring dogs into the UK from Eastern European puppy farms. They implant fake microchips before selling them on.
Finally, we learned about the fight back, meeting a victim who managed to steal her dog back and a pet detective who takes on these cases as her day job.

Japan’s Stereotypes Against Amejo in Okinawa
VICE World News host Hanako Montgomery travels to Okinawa, a former American territory, to find out why the term “Amejo” sparks controversy among Japanese women.
Okinawa was US territory till it was returned to Japan in 1972. With such proximity to American bases, some interacted with the culture in many ways- blending Japan and the United States into a somewhat cohesive whole.
But on the other hand, it has also created the term Amejo – used to describe Okinawan women “obsessed with American GIs.” Some would even label these girls as easy. VICE World News meets with an Okinawan woman who shows us what it really means to be an Amejo.
