Being Black And Mixed-Race in China | Gen 跟 China
Being mixed-race is often considered a privilege in China, yet Blackness can be stigmatised. Mixed-race Eurasian face filters and models are prolific on Chinese social media, but the same preference isn’t given to mixed-race Black and Chinese people, even though they are a growing demographic.
In fact, there is a small pocket of Chinese netizens spouting strong nationalistic and anti-Black racist views, which increased after changes were proposed to make it easier for foreigners to gain permanent residency in the country. VICE World News speaks to mixed-race Chinese people about their experience living in China.

Military Tank Expert Rates 8 Tank Battles In Movies And TV | How Real Is It? | Insider
Armor officer and military tank historian Nicholas Moran rates eight tank battles in movies, such as “Saving Private Ryan” and “Fury,” for realism.
Moran breaks down the accuracy of World War II tank history and battle tactics in “Kelly’s Heroes” (1970), “Saving Private Ryan” (1998), and “Fury” (2014). He looks at the realism of features and capabilities of tanks used in “GoldenEye” (1995), “Fast & Furious 6” (2013), and “Batman Begins” (2005). He also breaks down the development of tanks from World War I to modern times in “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” (1989) and “Courage Under Fire” (1996).
Moran is an armor officer on M1 Abrams tanks and M3 Bradleys, with combat deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is the in-house historian for the online game “World of Tanks,” and he has a YouTube channel covering armored history.

Minor Drug Offenders are Dying on Death Row in Singapore
Singapore resumed executions in March 2022, after a two-year hiatus. According to local activists, there are an estimated 60 inmates on death row, most of whom are for drug-related offences.
64-year old Nazeri bin Lajim has been scheduled for execution by hanging on July 22, 2022. This is the 9th execution scheduled this year, just shortly after the State carried out a double execution on July 7, 2022. VICE World News followed his family in May 2022 to find out how the capital punishment inflicts the condemned individual and those closest to them.

The Scandal Rocking Japan’s Catholic Church | Violation
In Japan, Catholics make up less than 1% of the population. Despite the small numbers, allegations of sexual abuse have surfaced against Catholic clergymen in recent years.
Mrs Harumi Suzuki is one of the first few in Japan to speak out against the sexual abuse she experienced when consulting with a priest at the church back in 1977. In September 2020, she filed an official lawsuit against the Sendai’s Catholic Church, seeking around $77,000 in damages, along with an official apology. She speaks to VICE World News about her experience and the impact the incident has had on her mental health.

I Was Listed ‘For Sale’ on a Fake Auction Site | Violation
On January 1, several Muslim women across India woke up and found themselves being “auctioned” on an app. The app, hosted by the GitHub platform, had used their photographs, many of them doctored. The targets included Muslim women across age groups, including prominent journalists, activists and lawyers. The app is a clone of ‘Sulli Deals’, which had triggered a row last year by offering users a ‘sulli’ – an insulting term used by right-wing trolls for Muslim women.
VICE World News meets with one of the victims in this case and through her story understands the different ways in which crimes like these affect women across India.
