Seisuiji Temple – Sado – Niigata – 清水寺
Located in Niigata, Sado island is the sixth largest island of Japan with more than 55,000 inhabitants. Like many other islands, Sado was used in the 8th century as an ideal place of banishment or exile for people in the area. It is only in around 1589 that Sado’s fortune changed when people started digging gold out of the island.
However, it was under Emperor Kanmu’s ordinance, in 808 that Seisuiji Temple was founded by a Buddhist monk who came from Kyoto while traveling Japan on a missionary tour.
Meaning “Salvation” in Japanese, Seisuiji Temple’s main hall is highly influenced by Kyoto’s famous Kiyomizu-dera and features the same Kanji : 清水寺, while being officially named Seisuiji. Like Kiyomizudera, Seisuiji’s main worship is the 1,000-armed Kannon Bosatsu (Goddess of Mercy).

Ancient Egypt Expert Rates 8 Ancient Egypt Scenes In Movies And TV | How Real Is It? | Insider
Egyptologist Anthony Browder rates eight ancient Egypt scenes from movies and television for realism.
He analyzes the accuracy of the mummification process depicted in “The Mummy” (1999), with Brendan Fraser, and “Moon Knight” (2022), starring Oscar Isaac. He also comments on pyramids and ancient ruins in “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981), starring Harrison Ford; “Gods of Egypt” (2016), featuring Chadwick Boseman; and “The Ten Commandments” (1956). Browder discusses famous pharaohs, kings, and queens depicted in “Exodus: Gods and Kings” (2014), “Cleopatra” (1963), and “Tut” (2015).
Browder is the director of the ASA Restoration Project, which is the first African American-funded archeological excavation in Egypt. The ASA is currently excavating three 25th-dynasty Kushite tombs. He is also an associate professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and the author of books such as “Nile Valley Contributions to Civilization.”

Greatest Rivalries in Sumo Wrestling – Takanohana vs Akebono – Part 1
Akebono and Takanohana’s rivalry is arguably the best rivalry in Sumo Wrestling. They made sumo wrestling more popular and tournament attendance soar during the early 1990’s. Both legends made their debut at the same month and rose through the ranks of sumo quickly.

Night Hangiri – Sado – Niigata – はんぎり
If you ever visited an old school sushi restaurant in Japan you may have come upon a large wood tub containing rice, these are called Sushi Oke, and Hangiri are simply just that in a larger size capable of accommodating up to 3 adults. Known in English as washtub boats, Hangiri is part of Sado Island’s unique cultural heritage and has been an essential fishing tool for the people living on the Ogi Peninsula of Sado.
While newer boats have replaced Hangiri in Ogi, locals there are working hard to keep this unique boat floating. Anyone can enjoy a ride along on these little boats, and, just recently created this summer, a unique “Night” experience that is actually breathtaking.
If you are visiting Sado, do not miss this Night Hangiri opportunity as it was, for us, a truly magical way for us to reconnect with Ogi’s past culture.

Takanoyama Shuntarō’s Best Finishes – Technique Breakdown
Pavel Bojar is the first man from Czech Republic to join Japan Sumo Wrestling. Takanoyama had trouble gaining weight during his career averaging 80-100 kg which became a problem when climbing the higher ranks of sumo. He usually gets overpowered by a bigger rikishi due to his light frame, but Takanoyama uses his speed and judo skills to outmanuever his opponents.
Here are some of the best finishes of Takanoyama Shuntaro in the Makuuchi Division, I made a simple breakdown of each technique. Hakkeyoi!!!
