Todoroki Valley – Tokyo – 等々力渓谷 – 4K Ultra HD

One of Tokyo’s most unconventional green spaces, Todoroki Valley is located just 20 minutes away from Shibuya Station and in the center of the densely populated Setagaya Ward.

Unlike many other places in Japan, Todoroki Valley is a simple walking trail adjacent to the Yazawa River and surrounded by a very dense forest that totally shields it from one of Tokyo’s busiest roads, Kan-Pachi Dori.

While the 1.2km long walking trail of the Todoroki Valley is a pure bliss, it is only at the end of the voyage that you can discover yet another hidden wonder with the Todoroki Fudo temple. Here you will be able to enjoy some delicious Mochi (Japanese rice sweets) and Ramune (Lemonade) as well as having the opportunity to let the gods hear your prayers and wash away your sins.

One of Tokyo’s most famous locations, Shibuya Crossing, a scramble crossing, is located just in front of Shibuya Station and a few step away from the Statue of Hachiko*. Shibuya Crossing has been made famous not only by its atypical crossing but also by its giants TV Screens, many advertising signs and youth fashion stores. Compared by many to New York’s Times Square, Shibuya Crossing has been seen in many foreign movies around the world and quickly became a number one tourist curiosity in Japan.

*Hachiko was an Akita dog that died in 1935. He is celebrated and remembered for his loyalty to his owner even after the owner died. For an additional 10 years, Hachiko continued his ritual of walking to Shibuya Station and waiting for his beloved owner to return.

Birthplace of one of Tokyo’s oldest trees (more than 700 years old), the Joshinji Temple or Jōshin-ji was first established in 1678 in Kuhonbutsu (a few meters away from the Kuhonbutsu Station in Tokyo) and home of the three Buddha Halls which are just in front of the main Hall, house of three of the nine Amida (Amitabha) Buddha. Each of these tall statues shows a different hand position, also known as Mudra, which have a symbolic meaning in the esoteric Buddhism.

These Buddha Statues are the craftwork of the great master Kaseki Shonin (1617-1694) who devoted many years of his life, from 18 years old – 51 years old, to create nine different manifestations of the Amida Buddha.
