Thirty years ago Bryce Cleary donated sperm to OHSU’s fertility clinic with the understanding he would father 5 donor children and they would all be born on the opposite coast. DNA testing has revealed that promise was not kept and he has at least 14 children in the Oregon area and more beyond.

As Bryce matches with a new donor child every 6 months with no end in sight, he has filed a lawsuit for $5.25 million against OHSU.

Since 1981, Richard Reyes has played the part of Pancho Claus — Santa’s Tex-Mex cousin — dressing up in a zoot suit and delivering presents in a low-rider to kids around the city. Through a poem and play he wrote, Richard has expanded on the mythology and importance of the character. In his view, Pancho is not a replacement for Santa, but represents community members that pick up the slack when Santa isn’t around; something Richard embodies year round as an active volunteer, leader, and organizer in Houston. Richard Reyes, and his alter-ego Pancho Claus, are without a doubt local legends.

Being a stand-up comic can be a dangerous job in Pakistan, where being outspoken about beliefs can make one vulnerable to state action, claims of heresy and even violent attacks. VICE Host Sabah Bano Malik joins Auratnaak, a feminist comedy troupe, as they open their first show in Karachi during the pandemic and talk about how comedy can be political. We also meet comics like Natalia Gul who faced online threats for joking about her community, and Swinery whose avatars of a blue Muslim cleric, a cranky alien and even a pig pushed the boundary of what’s acceptable in humour. We also meet Moiz who uses their online following to expose Beela, an ‘organized syndicate’ of men who attack members of the Pakistani queer community. The personal is political for this community of comics baring their views, uninhibited.

While there are shots so complicated that they require full CGI, many movies still try to make practical creatures that can interact with actors on set. For “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” creature effects designer Arjen Tuiten and his team were tasked with bringing the terror dog from the original “Ghostbusters” movie back to life. This required creating a 450-pound animatronic out of lifelike materials. They placed 21 motors in its face to allow for realistic expressions such as snarling, squinting, and breathing. Meanwhile, the team created a separate terror dog leg to terrify Paul Rudd in a close-up shot. And a more traditional, but no less complicated cable system allowed a skeleton puppet to actually pick up a coffee mug.
