Ameyoko Market – Tokyo – アメ横 上野 – 4K Ultra HD

The famous open-air market, Ameyoko, must be among the top ten things to enjoy when visiting Tokyo! Located just a station away from Akihabara and Ueno, Ameyoko Market, or more officially Ameya Yokocho, is home to almost 200 stores. These stores sell pretty much everything, ranging from fresh vegetables and seafood, to clothes, bags, cosmetics, other general goods. It even has a nice little Temple.
Now, you may wonder why the name Ameya or Ameyoko is written in Katakana? Well, after the second world war, the place was famous for selling US army goods on the black market where the term AME (アメ) was the short form of the word AMERICA (アメリカ).

Ginza – Tokyo – 銀座 – 4K Ultra HD

Several centuries before Ginza became synonymous with luxury, it was actually a swamp. It was only after a major fire in 1872 that burnt down most of the area that the Meiji government decided to rebuild it into a model of modernization! It was only after 1923 that Ginza became an upmarket shopping district, popular amongst people living outside of Tokyo. To be fair, Ginza is far from being the fanciest place in Tokyo and it may disappoint if you were to compare it to the Champs-Élysées in Paris or 5th Avenue in New York.

Still if you happen to visit Tokyo from April to September you will be glad to know that Ginza’s major road is closed to cars on weekends in order to become one of Tokyo’s largest pedestrian zones.

Kawazu Sakura Festival – Shizuoka – 河津桜祭り- 4K Ultra HD

Shizuoka Kawazu Sakura Festival – 河津桜祭り- 4K Ultra HD ; With around 8,000 cherry trees mostly located along the Kawazu River, the Kawazu Sakura Festival (Kawazu-zakura Matsuri) is one of Japan’s most famous places for early cherry trees blossom viewing or hanami. Located on the Izu Peninsula, Kawazu and its Sakura festival attract almost two million visitors each year from mid-February through mid-March.

According to the residents of Kawazu, the first early blooming cherry trees were discovered in the 1950s and since then the Kawazu residents have worked hard to systematically plant more of these trees across the city and along the river.

Finally if you are planning to visit the Kawazu Sakura Festival, we would highly recommend you get there as early as you can in order to avoid the amazing crowds that this place is attracting every day!

Yanaka Ginza – 谷中銀座 – 4K Ultra HD

Made famous for its proximity to the Yanaka Cemetery and its many temples, Yanaka Ginza is a below- average shopping street that is really not worth spending the time to visit. This statement may be blunt for sure, but that unfortunately is the sad, cold reality. Move along tourists you are not welcome here! Most stores will not make any effort to welcome you and will immediately point you to their many “photos are prohibited” signs before even trying to serve you – sad indeed. Still Tokyo offers many other alternatives to Yanaka Ginza and nearby Sugamo, for example, will definitely meet your shopping needs.

Meguro Gajoen – Tokyo – 目黒雅叙園 – 4K Ultra HD

Built in 1935 as Japan’s first wedding complex, Meguro Gajoen is a mini-oasis in the middle of a mostly business district. Granted, Meguro Gajoen is not the most amazing place in Japan to visit, however this complex does offer some very interesting attractions including indoor traditional restaurant/tea ceremony rooms, gardens with some gorgeous wooden painting fresque, a nice little pond and a selection of restaurants that are featured in the Tokyo edition of the famous Michelin Guide! If that’s not enough for you, make sure to visit the Meguro Gajoen Hyakudan Kaidan Festival usually held from the end of January to the beginning of March.

Shiodome – Tokyo – 汐留 – 4K Ultra HD

Shiodome was known as the Shimbashi railway terminal, until 1914, but since 1984 it has slowly transformed into one of Tokyo’s most modern areas, where luxury hotels and business buildings rule the roost.
For the average tourist there is nothing too special about this place except maybe the presence of one of Japan’s largest TV broadcasters Nittele (日テレタワー) as well as a very striking clock, designed by Studio Ghibli and heavily inspired by the movie Hauru no Ugoku Shiro (ハウルの動く城) or Howl’s Moving Castle.

Nevertheless, being a hub for many hotels, parks and a gateway to Odaiba, you will probably have to go there at some point if you visit Tokyo, so if you have some spare time on your way to your final destination, make sure to have a look at the place and the few attractions it has to offer.

Tokyo Tower – 東京タワー – 4K Ultra HD

Tokyo Tower – 東京タワー – 4K Ultra HD : Too often compared to the Eiffel Tower of Paris, Tokyo Tower is in fact a big, fancy communication (TV and Radio) tower built in 1958. Indeed, as soon as the NHK started to broadcast TV in 1953, a large broadcasting tower needed to be built in order to cover the entire region.

Tokyo Tower is thinner than the Eiffel Tower, but 13 meters taller with a total height of 333m. For over half a century, it has been the pinnacle of Tokyo and the only best place to enjoy a unique view of the region thanks to its two observation decks (at 150m and 250m). Unfortunately for this beautiful piece of engineering, that withstood many major earthquakes, Tokyo Tower was deemed many years ago as unsuitable for covering the need for TV stations to broadcast digital signals. Also it has to share the hall of fame of Tokyo’s tallest structure with another Tower : Tokyo Skytree with a stunning height of 634m.
