Byōdō-in – Kyoto – 平等院 – 4K Ultra HD
Featured on every single 10-yen coin found across across Japan, Byodoin or Byōdō-in/Byōdōin is one of the most striking examples of Jodo, Buddhist Pure Land sect, architecture! Together with its small, yet beautiful garden, Byōdō-in represents the Pure Land Paradise and was very influential on later temple construction.
Unlike many other temples, Byōdō-in was in fact built as a countryside villa first, in 998, by the powerful politician Fujiwara no Michinaga. It was only turned into a temple in 1053 by Michinaga’s son, who also ordered the construction of its most striking feature, the Phoenix Hall.
While the Byōdō-in building has been destroyed many times over the centuries, the Phoenix Hall at the other end has never be damaged, and still retains its original design.

Coedo Beer – Saitama – コエドビール – 4K Ultra HD
Created in the seventies, COEDO is a craft beer made in Saitama prefecture, and more precisely in Kawagoe, one hour north of Tokyo by train.
The peculiarity of COEDO beers, is that they are made of Japanese sweet potatoes! COEDO was not always in the beer-brewing business, starting instead as an agricultural company specializing in vegetable distribution. Because of the nature of farming, many nonstandardized vegetables were left behind, and the company realized that it could turn some of them into beer.
Thanks to the support from a crew of German beer professionals, COEDO started, slowly but surely to make specialized craft beer that later became a wild success in different regions of the world. They have received many awards, including the famous European Beer Star and World Beer Cup.
