Located in the Kinusaki Peninsula of Oita Prefecture, one of Japan’s most beautiful areas, Monjusenji Temple is believed to have been founded in 648 by the Father of Shugendo, En no Gyoja, acclaiming Monju Bodhisattva as the temple’s main idol of worship from Godaisan, China. It prospered in the Edo period as a place of worship for Kitsuki’s feudal clan lord Matsudaira Nomi.
Monjusen-Ji, used to be famous in the past for its “Wisdom water” which once drunk in the form of an incantation before their first year would be “washed” of any impurities associated with colics often deadly at that time.

Futago-Ji Temple – Oita – 両子寺 – 4K Ultra HD
Maybe one of Oita’s best-known temples, Futago-ji, is located in the Kunisaki Peninsula and was built in 718 A.D. by Ninmon. Futagoji is also famous for its two Nio Guardian figures build in hard stone and capable of withstanding whatever mother nature can throw them at.
Right in the middle of the temple ground, you will find its main hall, known as the Gomado Hall. Dedicated to Fudomyoo, a protector of Buddhism, and the Okunoin Hall, it enshrines the thousand-armed Kannon Bodhisattva.
On a side note, Oita is famous across Japan for its Toriten or Tori tempura, a delicacy that is, as far as we are concerned, much tastier and delicate than karaage. One of the best restaurants offering Toriten in Oita is located just next to the temple : (Futagokawaraza, +81-978-64-6305), check it out!

(Futagokawaraza, +81-978-64-6305). Allez donc y faire un tour !

[Cinematic] Kitsuki Castle – Oita – 杵築城 – 4K Ultra HD
First built in 1394 by the fourth daimyo Kizuki Yorinao and located in the city of Kitsuki in Oita prefecture, the Kitsuki Castle is, believe it or not, Japan’s smallest and obviously cuttest caste!
Belonging to the Kitsuki Clan, and for almost fourteen generations and until the end of the 16th century, today’s castle is unfortunately not the very same built back in 1394 and has suffered many natural disasters over the centuries and it is only in 1970 that it was decided to rebuild the castle from the ground up.
Because of its size the best way to enjoy the castle is either from the air or far away from one of Kitsuki city’s many vantage points over this small, yet beautiful castle.

Note: Starting from today onward, we will revisit some of our first and oldest videos and “Remaster” them to correct some of the early mistakes we may have made in the past.
Each newly reworks videos will be tag with a [Remastered] prefix added to their original titles.
This video was originally published on October 4, 2014, on YouTube https://youtu.be/SpIhRwmWH8M
One of Tokyo’s most famous locations, Shibuya Crossing, a scramble crossing, is located just in front of Shibuya Station and a few steps away from the Statue of Hachiko*. Shibuya Crossing has been made famous not only by its atypical crossing but also by its giant TV Screens, many advertising signs, and youth fashion stores. Compared by many to New York’s Times Square, Shibuya Crossing has been seen in many foreign movies around the world and quickly became a number one tourist curiosity in Japan.
*Hachiko was an Akita dog that died in 1935. He is celebrated and remembered for his loyalty to his owner even after the owner died. For an additional 10 years, Hachiko continued his ritual of walking to Shibuya Station and waiting for his beloved owner to return.
