Since 2016, criminal gangs have occupied more than a hundred flats in central Barcelona to sell and use drugs, turning them into so-called narcopisos. Neighbours living in what were previously peaceful areas complain of fights, stabbings, and sometimes being terrorised out of their own homes. But despite their calls for help, it can take months for the police to intervene. VICE investigates how the narcopisos operate, how they affect the city’s residents, and why they are so prevalent in Barcelona.
