Acid attacks are on the increase in the UK, but the majority of targets here are men. In Bangladesh, it is women and girls who are most likely to be victims of acid violence. VICE journalist Zing Tsjeng speaks to Bangladeshi survivors and fashion designer Bibi Russell, who are coming together to put on a ActionAid UK fashion show in London to raise awareness of the issue.
One of the models, Sonali, was only a baby when acid was thrown over her and her family. Fifteen years later, Sonali is joining other acid attack victims to stride down the Survivors’ Runway in a show that seeks to celebrate the fighting spirit of these women.
